At the 4:00 Mass this weekend, Pat and Jack Darling received a blessing in celebration of 60 years of marriage. The blessing was conferred by Msgr. David Kunz, our celebrant this weekend while Fr. Konopa is away for a celebration of the 50th anniversary of his parents, Wally and Joan Konopa.
Msgr. Kunz was pastor at MMOC from 2002 to 2008, so there has been a “welcome home” feeling to this weekend.
Also welcomed home were Jack and Pat’s family, including their daughters Julie (Kevin) Sutter and Jane (Mike) Vogel, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Four are alumni of St. Thomas More School, and they are pictured here with the model made by Betty and Wally Stoll. They pointed to windows and mentioned teachers they’d had, with sweet affection in their voices.
This was also the weekend we celebrated Pentecost, the coming of the Holy Spirit. In his Homily, Msgr. Kunz talked about four people from our own diocese who, though ordinary and imperfect like us all, are on a path toward sainthood. He also urged us, when we feel an impulse to visit or call someone, that might well be the Spirit, go with it.
Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love.
